I’m driven by the question: What does it mean to use analog medium in the contemporary world? From daguerreotype to slide transparency film, to silver gelatin prints, each medium transitioned from a necessity to obsolescence to novelty. I study and experiment with various analog processes to better understand the physicality of each medium. The dissonance between the traditional photographic medium and the contemporary photographic subject matter has become my source of inspiration. My process is fragmented and multi layered. Large format photography, cameraless photography and digital photography eventually led me into building cameras using found optics. It often begins with a piece of obsolete technology, such as an analog projector, an old cellphone or an abandoned lens. I build functional devices with these findings and sometimes, I photograph these findings using other historical methods.
